Ceramic Paint Protection Melbourne

Ceramic Paint Protection in Melbourne

Ceramic paint protection is a liquid coating that bonds to your clear coat and cures into a hard, slick layer. Water beads and rolls off, road grime rinses away, and the paint holds its gloss instead of going flat in the sun. At Liquid R it starts at $980 on bare paint, including decontamination and single stage machine polish, and new car packages start at $1090.

We apply it indoors at our Mitcham workshop, where we have been coating cars since 2015 as Gtechniq trained applicators. Call 1800 985 880 or text 0483 930 888 for a quote on your car.

What Ceramic Paint Protection Does

The coating fills the tiny pores that make paint grab dirt. The surface turns hydrophobic: rain beads, dried bugs come off with a rinse, and bird droppings have less time to etch. Underneath, the clear coat is shielded from UV and chemical staining, which is what keeps the colour from fading over the years.

What It Does Not Do

A coating is microns thick. It will not stop a stone chip and it will not fill scratches that are already there. Impact protection is the job of PPF, and existing defects need correction before coating. Anyone who tells you a coating stops chips is selling. More in our article on ceramic coating myths.

Ceramic Paint Protection from $980

On bare paint, the coating starts at $980. That includes the part of the job that decides the result: a full decontamination wash, iron and tar removal, clay treatment and a single stage machine polish under inspection lights before any coating goes on.

Dealer Paint Protection or Ours

Dealer paint protection is usually sold with the car and applied off site. Ask what product is used, what preparation is included, and who honours the warranty. Ours lists the coating by name, includes machine polishing, and is applied indoors by the team that backs it.

Ceramic or Graphene

Both cure into a hard layer over the clear coat. Graphene adds a slicker finish and lower surface tension, so it spots less on hot panels. If the car sleeps outside, graphene usually earns its place. More on graphene coating. Our guide to the best ceramic coating compares products and shops.

How Long It Lasts

A professionally applied coating protects for two to five years in normal Melbourne use, and well maintained cars have stretched ours toward nine. The wash routine makes most of the difference: pH neutral shampoo, no brush car washes, and a clean towel or blower to dry. Avoid the common mistakes after a coating and it lasts longer.

Coating Over PPF

A ceramic layer can go over paint protection film in the same booking for $650. The film handles stone chips and the coating keeps it easy to wash, which is how most of our film cars leave the workshop.

Wheels and Interior

Wheel ceramic is $60 per wheel and lets brake dust rinse off before it bakes on. Leather and fabric coatings slow spills soaking in, which is why they are part of Pack 2 and up. Our Gtechniq page lists the products we use.

Why We Coat Indoors

Coating in a driveway lets wind-blown dust settle into the wet coating, and dust under glass is a correction bill later. Our bays are indoors, lit for inspection and kept at a steady temperature so the coating cures properly. Dark paint gains the most, see coating dark cars.

Correction Comes First

A coating locks in whatever finish sits under it. Swirled paint is corrected before coating, in stages, without cutting more clear coat than the defects need. Our cut and polish page explains how.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you book. Anything else, call 1800 985 880.

How much is ceramic paint protection in Melbourne?

At Liquid R it starts at $980 on bare paint, including decontamination and single stage machine polish. New car packages with coating start at $1090.

How long does ceramic paint protection last?

Two to five years in normal Melbourne use with a proper wash routine. Well maintained cars have stretched our coatings toward nine years.

Does ceramic paint protection stop stone chips?

No. A coating protects against UV, staining, water spots and wash marks. Stone chips need paint protection film, which is why the two are often combined.

Is ceramic paint protection the same as dealer paint protection?

Not necessarily. Dealer products vary. Ask what product is applied, what preparation is included and who backs the warranty, then compare like for like.

Can ceramic paint protection go on an older car?

Yes. Older paint is decontaminated and machine polished first, then coated. The coating locks in the corrected finish and makes it easier to keep.
