Best Car Wrap Melbourne

The Best Car Wrap in Melbourne: Vinyl or Colour PPF

The best car wrap is the one that still looks right in five years. That comes down to the film, the preparation and the way the edges are finished. Most wrap shops use vinyl. Liquid R wraps only in colour PPF, because it is thicker, self-heals light scratches and stops stone chips while it changes the colour. This guide covers both so you can choose.

Full colour PPF wraps start at $6980 at our Mitcham workshop. Call 1800 985 880 or text 0483 930 888.

Vinyl Wraps: Pros and Limits

Vinyl comes in a huge range of colours and costs less up front. It is thin, so stones cut through it, and budget vinyl fades and shrinks at the edges after a few Melbourne summers. It suits short term looks and commercial signage. Our colour PPF vs vinyl wrap guide compares the two.

Colour PPF Wraps

Colour PPF is paint protection film with the colour built in. It is several times thicker than vinyl, heals light scratches with warmth and is warranted against yellowing and cracking. We use Spectra Colour PPF from Defcon Films Australia. Film types are compared in wrap and PPF film types in Australia.

Finish Choices

Gloss, satin, matte and colour flip. Satin and matte never need polishing, which makes them practical on a car that is driven every day. Finishes are compared in our wrap finishes article.

Panels Off, Not Cut Around

The best wraps are done with bumpers, handles, mirrors and badges removed, so the film is wrapped around every edge. Cutting around trim on the car leaves lines that lift and show the old colour. Not every car needs a full wrap, see full, partial or spot wraps.

Prep Decides the Finish

Contamination and swirls show through any film. The car should be decontaminated and polished before wrapping, and resprayed panels assessed first, since aftermarket paint bonds differently. That preparation is a cut and polish in all but name.

How Long a Good Wrap Lasts

A quality colour PPF wrap gives seven to ten years of service with a normal wash routine. Ask any shop for the film’s warranty in writing, and what their own workmanship cover is. Care instructions are on our aftercare page.

Reversible Either Way

A good wrap comes off cleanly with heat on sound factory paint. That makes it a sensible choice for a leased car, and it means the original colour is there for the next owner. Clear film is the alternative if you only want protection, see PPF prices.

What It Costs

Full colour PPF wraps start at $6980 here and take five to seven working days. Partial wraps like roofs and mirrors are usually same day. Details on our car wraps page.
