Car Tinting Melbourne

Car Tinting in Melbourne

Car tinting at Liquid R starts at $495 with genuine 3M Color Stable film, steps up to 3M Ceramic IR from $595 and 3M Crystalline from $750, and includes the ceramic CoolVue range from Defcon Films Australia. Every shade we fit is legal in Victoria, every film is metal free, and a standard car is usually tinted and back with you the same day.

The tinting is done in our own bays in Mitcham by our own team, so the booking time holds and the warranty has one name on it. Call 1800 985 880 or text 0483 930 888 for a same week booking.

Window tint film being fitted to a car door

3M Color Stable from $495

The entry point to genuine 3M film. It never turns purple, blocks 99 percent of UV and rejects up to 57 percent of total solar energy, in every legal shade. For most daily drivers this is the right tint, and it is the film included in Pack 3 and Pack 4 of our new car protection packages.

3M Ceramic IR from $595

Nano ceramic particles absorb infrared, the heat you feel on your arm through the glass. The cabin stays noticeably cooler at the same shade, which matters most on dark cars and long commutes. Read more on our ceramic window tinting page. It suits dark paint best, see our article on looking after dark cars.

3M Crystalline from $750

3M’s top film stacks over 200 optical layers into a film thinner than a sticky note. It rejects up to 97 percent of infrared while staying almost clear, so you get a cool cabin with a light look. It suits cars that already have factory privacy glass in the rear. Why heat rejection matters more than darkness is explained in our ceramic tint guide.

Defcon CoolVue Ceramic Tint

CoolVue is the flagship ceramic tint from Defcon Films Australia, with 99 percent UV and 98 percent infrared rejection. Its clarity holds at low sun angles, which is when cheaper films go hazy on the evening drive home. Pricing starts from $695. Our guide to the best car tint compares the films side by side.

Legal Tint in Victoria

Front side windows must let through at least 35 percent of visible light. Rear side windows and the rear screen can go darker on most passenger cars, and the windscreen takes no film below the visor band. We fit the darkest legal shade by default. Our guide to window tint laws in Victoria has the detail.

Same Day Car Tinting

A standard car is normally dropped in the morning and collected the same afternoon. Films are plotter cut to your glass, so there is no trimming on the car. Keep the windows up for two to three days while the adhesive cures, and expect a light haze in the first week that clears on its own. Our article on what to know about car window tinting covers the rest.

Old Tint Removal

Purple, bubbled or peeling tint comes off with heat, including the glue left on the demister lines, and the glass is cleaned back before new film goes on. If a previous owner fitted tint that would fail a roadworthy, we strip it and refit a legal shade in the same visit. Tint is also built into our new car protection packages from Pack 3.

Glass roof seen from inside a Tesla

Glass Roofs and Sunroofs

Panoramic roofs let a lot of heat into the cabin even when the glass blocks UV. We either tint the roof glass or fit Crystal Shield, a clear film from $350 that cuts heat soak and adds a strike face against falling stones. Electric car owners ask about this most, and the Tesla page covers it. Glass roofs on electric cars are where this matters most.

3M film brochures and warranty cards

Warranty for as Long as You Own the Car

3M automotive films are warranted against purpling, bubbling, peeling and delaminating for as long as you own the car, registered to the car itself. Because the same business fits the film and backs it, one document covers both. More on 3M window tinting.
