What Makes the Best PPF Film
Look for a self-healing urethane top coat, a UV stable adhesive and a written manufacturer warranty against yellowing, bubbling, cracking and delamination. Clarity matters too: good gloss film is close to invisible on dark paint, while budget film shows an orange peel texture in the sun. Why owners fit it at all is covered in reasons to apply PPF.
The Films We Choose
Our clear gloss and satin films come from Defcon Films Australia first, with STEK as the second range. STEK DYNO films carry a ten year warranty, extendable to twelve years with the maker’s ceramic top coat. We do not fit unbranded film.
Precut Patterns or Freehand
The best installers cut film on a plotter from a pattern for your exact model, so no blade touches your paint. Freehand trimming on the car is where knife marks in the clear coat come from. Where no pattern exists, the panel should be templated off the car.
Indoor, Dust Controlled Bays
Dust under film is permanent until the film comes off. The best results come from clean indoor bays with inspection lighting. Our Mitcham workshop has ten bays across 1,000 square metres, and nothing is fitted outdoors. More about our workshop.
Paint Prep Before Film
Film shows whatever is underneath it. A good installer decontaminates the paint and machine polishes swirls first, from $850 on older cars. Price: What a Fair Quote Looks Like

Questions to Ask Any Installer
Which film brand, and can I see the warranty card? Are patterns precut for my model? Will the edges be wrapped? Is the work done indoors? Who fixes a lifted edge in the first month?
