Ceramic Window Tint Melbourne

Ceramic Window Tinting in Melbourne

Ceramic window tint keeps a car cooler because it stops infrared heat, not just visible light. Liquid R fits two ceramic ranges at our Mitcham workshop: 3M Ceramic IR from $595, with 85 percent infrared rejection, and CoolVue from Defcon Films Australia from $695, with 98 percent. Both block 99 percent of UV, both are metal free, and both come in every shade that is legal in Victoria.

If your car is dark, parked outside or does a long commute, ceramic film is the tint that makes a difference you can feel in January. Call 1800 985 880 or text 0483 930 888 to book.

What Makes Tint Ceramic

Ceramic films carry nano ceramic particles that absorb infrared, the part of sunlight that warms your skin through the glass. Dyed films darken the glass and block UV, but let much more of that heat through. The result is a cooler cabin at the same shade, without the metal layer older heat rejecting films used.

3M Ceramic IR from $595

Ceramic IR rejects 85 percent of infrared and 99 percent of UV, with a neutral look from outside. It is the step most commuters take from a dyed film, and it suits dark paint and black interiors that soak up heat. Our guide to the best car tint compares it with the other films.

Defcon CoolVue from $695

CoolVue posts the highest heat rejection we fit, with 98 percent infrared rejection, and its clarity holds when the sun is low. That matters on the drive home into the western sun, when lesser films turn hazy. It is the film we reach for on prestige cars.

Ceramic vs Normal Tint

Darker does not mean cooler. A dark dyed tint can let more heat through than a light ceramic one, and Victorian law caps the front sides at 35 percent anyway. So the real choice is film technology within the legal shade. Our entry dyed film, 3M Color Stable from $495, is still a good tint; ceramic is the upgrade for heat. See the full car tinting price list. Every film we fit is listed on the window tinting page.

Light Shade, Cool Cabin

Some drivers want heat rejection without dark glass, for night visibility or a factory look. Ceramic films and 3M Crystalline from $750 reject heat at light shades, so the cabin stays cool and the glass stays clear. Crystalline is a multi-layer optical film rather than a ceramic, and it is the lightest high performance option we fit. The legal limits are set out in our guide to Victorian tint laws.

No Signal Interference

Ceramic film has no metal in it, so e-tags, GPS, 5G, DAB radio and keyless entry all work exactly as before. Signal problems come from metallised budget films and cannot be fixed without stripping the tint. More in our article on what to know about window tinting.

Ceramic Tint on EV Glass Roofs

A panoramic roof turns an electric car into a greenhouse on a hot day. Ceramic film on the roof glass cuts that heat, or Crystal Shield from $350 adds heat control and stone strike protection with a clear factory look. Read more on EV paint protection. Fitting and Curing

Film is plotter cut to your glass and fitted indoors. Keep the windows up for two to three days, and expect a light haze or small moisture pockets in the first week that clear on their own. Our ceramic tint guide covers how it performs over time. More about our workshop, and directions on the contact page.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you book. Anything else, call 1800 985 880.

Is ceramic window tint worth it?

For dark cars, cars parked outside and long commutes, yes. Ceramic film rejects far more infrared heat than dyed film at the same shade, so the cabin stays cooler and the air conditioning works less.

How much is ceramic tint in Melbourne?

3M Ceramic IR starts at $595 and Defcon CoolVue from $695, fitted. 3M Crystalline, a multi-layer film with similar heat rejection at lighter shades, starts at $750.

Yes. Ceramic films come in every shade, and we fit the darkest legal shade by default: at least 35 percent light transmission on front side windows in Victoria.

Does ceramic tint interfere with phones or GPS?

No. Ceramic films contain no metal, so phone, GPS, e-tag and keyless entry signals pass through normally.

How long does ceramic tint last?

3M films are warranted against purpling, bubbling, peeling and delamination for as long as you own the car. CoolVue carries a manufacturer warranty that we hand over in writing at pickup.
