Brake dust bakes onto bare alloys and pits the finish. A wheel ceramic, $60 per wheel, handles the heat and lets the dust rinse off before it bonds.

Near the water in Elwood, salt residue builds up on paint between washes. A ceramic coating gives it nothing to grip, so a rinse does most of the work.

Washing a Coated Car
pH neutral shampoo, a rinse before contact, no brush car washes, and a clean towel or blower to dry, as set out in our guide to washing a coated car. Done that way the coating keeps beading and nothing gritty gets dragged across the paint.
